Question: Can you date your counselor?

The American Psychological Association Code of Ethics, Section 10.05, states that psychologists do not engage in sexual intimacies with current therapy clients/patients. In most all states, laws prohibiting sex with clients are limited to current or recent clients.

Can you fall in love with your counselor?

Falling in love with ones therapist is as old as therapy itself. I say this not to trivialize it but to validate it: in many cases a person gets healthy through falling in love with her (or his) therapist.

Do therapists make good partners?

If youve been asked out by a therapist, dont run away just because you assume youll be overanalyzed and judged on your date. Therapists can be great romantic partners. Give therapy a chance. If youre looking for someone trustworthy, a therapist is trained in confidentiality.

Is it bad to have a crush on your therapist?

Experts say experiencing some kind of attraction toward your counselor is not atypical — and chances are, your therapist has dealt with something similar before. Recognizing your feelings and working through them with your therapist may actually help you grow.
